Spring/summer bloomFrost hardy
Sow seeds directly in the spring garden in full sun as early as the ground can be worked. Sweet peas grow best in cool weather and seedlings can handle frost. In mild winter areas, where ground does not freeze, seeds can be planted in fall weather for spring bloom. Sweet peas need rich fertile soil, so dig soil deeply and enrich with aged manure or compost before planting seeds 1 inch deep and 2 to 3 inches apart.
Space seedlings 4 to 5 inches apart when they are 2 inches tall, allowing room for plants to mature.
